This magnificent 19th century home project was a complete gut job. The kitchen had a comprehensive facelift with a new gas range and exhaust system, zinc and butcher block countertops, and reclaimed wood pantry doors from Morocco. The zinc countertop will only benefit with age and will eventually have an iridescent blue-gray gloss. The old longstanding peninsula had to go and was redesigned into a chic breakfast nook. A notable feature in this kitchen is the personalized antique penny backsplash. This backsplash is a touching tribute to the client’s late father who was an avid coin collector.
South Loop Kitchen Renovation
Our clients needed to update, adjust and maximize storage and functionality in their kitchen. The floor to ceiling, extra-long pantry, was specially designed and installed to give the clients exactly what they needed – more space. The clients are very happy that everything now has a place in the kitchen with the maximum cabinet storage provided for them. Staining the cabinets dark was inspired for a more modern look that contrasts the light and elegant open-concept space. Wowza, look at the amazing view of Solider Field!
Evanston Kitchen Remodel
This Evanston home was built in the 1960’s, by the original homeowner, who was an architect. As a result of his skillset, the interior featured a very unique style that housed an open floor plan with exposed heavy timber beams. These homeowners did not want to lose that feel, when they came to us for ideas for their enclosed kitchen. We were able to expand the space even more by removing two walls and moving the entire kitchen to the back exterior wall. This move allowed for a 10’ island with waterfall quartz countertops, and is equipped with storage on both sides. We also added a buffet, by the stairs, that is equipped with plenty of storage, a wine fridge and a hidden rollway cabinet section, so that the home owners could access their landing freely. For the finishes, we went with a more modern approach, to accentuate the style of the original architecture.
1950’s Retro Humboldt Park Kitchen
These clients came to us with a unique design challenge of renovating their kitchen with a 1950’s retro twist. With the kitchen being the focal point of the home, the client’s wanted something to bring the space to life. The kitchen cabinets are all a custom retro shade of green, complimented by a light quartz countertop and red accents throughout the space. We were able to find retro themed appliances and used an apron style sink to flush out the design. The cabinets feature glass inserts, under cabinet lighting, pull out drawers and lazy susans. The subway tile backsplash and retro tile floor add the final touches to a space that is bursting with personality.
River North Kitchen & Dining
This client wanted their kitchen to have an open concept feel between the kitchen and eat-in area, however the former peninsula made that impossible. By replacing the peninsula with a custom island, the area opened up while creating additional storage, cooking space and serves as a well fitted place for the wine cooler and microwave. Other appliances in this updated kitchen include a 48 inch stainless steel stove with a separate double oven, a dishwasher and a large double door stainless refrigerator. The classic custom white shaker cabinets were preferred for this renovation, since they offer a timeless look. The cabinets include pull out shelving and drawers, making it easy to store/access any item, there are even specific dividers for cookie sheets and serving trays in the pantry.
Farmhouse Kitchen Renovation
This farmhouse kitchen remodel has been updated with a striking mix of colors with the classic, cherry wood shaker cabinets, a stainless-steel farmhouse apron sink and a glossy white micro brick backsplash. The glazed backsplash emphasizes the intriguing contrast with the man-made, Nevern stone countertops from Cambria. The client wanted to keep the kitchen traditional while modernizing important items like USB and receptacle outlets relocated to both sides of the island, allowing for easy and out-of-the-way charging. We added attractive and convenient storage, building a custom cabinet with two quartzite shelves on one end of the island – perfect for showcasing cookbooks and smaller kitchen appliances!
Des Plaines Kitchen Remodel
These clients knew exactly what they needed to accommodate their family and entertain larger gatherings in a more sophisticated space! So, we redesigned accordingly. We tore down a wall to connect the kitchen, dining and living room which gave the space the essential natural light it was lacking. The L-shaped peninsula gives the chef an ideal vantage point to speak with family or guests while preparing meals. This renovation created the perfect, enormous, open-concept space for entertaining.
Modern-Rustic Loft Kitchen
This loft unit was unique both, in it’s layout, as well as its finishes with exposed heavy timber framing and ceiling. The clients wanted to update their kitchen while complimenting the space. The custom cabinets used for this design are finished with horizontal rift sawn oak, which has a very straight woodgrain. The adjacent pantry was fitted with a custom bi-fold matching door with frosted glass inserts. The rustic feel of the space is further emphasized with distressed finish wide plank wood flooring, which due to the unique layout, runs at an angle to the cabinet walls for a unique contrast. The flat panel cabinets, stainless steel appliances and white quartz countertops finish the space adding a clean and contemporary element in juxtaposition to the rustic wood finishes while the glass subway tile backsplash adds a subtle color.
Ravenswood Kitchen Revamp
The clients of this gorgeous white kitchen came to us in need of desk space within their kitchen and wanted to update their cabinetry. Keeping the kitchen clean and seamless, we installed full-height, functional cabinets throughout the kitchen. The cabinets were installed with an added feature of internal outlets, ensuring for a clutter-free home. The focus of the revamp, the desk, has loads of storage and was built intentionally in front of the two windows to let sunlight in and illuminate the kitchen with natural light. The desk was built in after the cabinetry to make a smooth transition to naturally match the cabinets.
Contemporary Chicago Kitchen
Due to the fully custom cabinets being ordered from Italy, the homeowners had one main concern for the project, and that was to install them properly. It was this heightened concern that they sought out our superior craftsmanship. The custom, floor to ceiling, Italian cabinets are what compliment the contemporary architecture and create a new focal point. The kitchen now has ample storage, with additional cupboards in the large kitchen island. One of the highlights of this space besides, the kitchen cupboards, are the exposed wooden beams that complement the natural stone countertops and wooden flooring. The wooden backed bar stools coordinate with the exposed wooden beams and fit perfectly into the aesthetics of the space.
Skokie Kitchen & Banquette
These homeowners desired a new kitchen layout, which needed to be a more functional space, as the old kitchen was very dated and didn’t match their lifestyle. We achieved this by reconfiguring the available long and narrow galley style kitchen, which is now capped on one side with an additional wall of cabinets, refrigerator, and appliance station. This was done to increase the amount of countertop space in the main area. The other side now features a custom banquette nook, with built in storage. This area brings in plenty of natural light because of the corner windows. The white painted, flat panel, custom cabinets and white quartz countertops add a crisp clean effect, while the blue, glass, subway tiled backsplash adds color and is highlighted by the under cabinet lighting throughout the space.
Downtown Condo Renovation
These clients were looking to upgrade their downtown condo’s kitchen while keeping the existing footprint of the space. They wanted a more modern feel to the space with a custom blue and grey finish, made especially by the cabinet manufacturer. A pre-existing cantilevered kitchen island was transformed into a stationary island with seating, storage, roll out shelving, and properly sized drawers for pots and pans. The open concept condo features beautiful wooden beams that pairs nicely with the blue, grey and white coloring.
This newly remodeled kitchen represents a bright and cheery space, with plenty of natural light and a wonderful balance of woodwork, dark granite, soft whites and cream highlights. The custom cabinets, pantry and drawers are a lovely light colored wood that contrast nicely with the dark grey granite countertops and match the dark grey breakfast table. The stainless steel appliances, off-white subway tiled backsplash and earth toned tile floors give this space a clean look. The clients wanted some custom made features including the window seat, cabinets with glass inserts, recessed lighting and the pass through exhibit above the double sink.
Roscoe Village Renovation
Our first challenge with this project was coming up with a design to complement the homeowners eclectic style; the first thing they asked for was the opposite of the basic kitchen they had. A major concern was with the lack of space in the original design, so we took out a wall between the existing kitchen and adjacent bedroom creating a larger, more open space that now catches lots of light during the day. Their brand new, red island gives them plenty of counter space with a pop of color. Outfitting drawers and a countertop in the mudroom to match the kitchen preserved the seamless design into the next room. The blue bookshelf was turned into a great storage space for decoration. The homeowners unique style helped create a fun and colorful space.
Lake Bluff Kitchen
This space originally held a very small kitchen within a large room, the clients wanted to enhance the size of their kitchen to fit their needs and have it proportional to the spacious room it stood in. To give the clients the amount of storage they desired, we expanded the cabinets and counter space, created a built-in hutch, and built a large custom kitchen island with extra storage and shelving. For a clean look we installed crisp white countertops, cabinets and an island. We used stainless steel for all of the appliances, an off-white subway tiled backsplash, two large metal pendant lights and dark espresso hardwood floor to give the space balance to the white in the room. This previously small kitchen was transformed into a large, open concept space equipped with ample storage, counter space and eating area, drastically improving the overall functionality of the space.
This client was looking for a more modern kitchen with a traditional feel. They had a few special requests including having the microwave hidden, the pantry removed and a new window above the sink installed. This kitchen remodel was a complete gut rehab, with a new window, electrical, plumbing and drywall along with all of the finishes. The cabinets are a lovely custom grey color from J&K Cabinetry, which stands out against the crisp white quartz countertops and subway tiled backsplash. The backsplash contains a penny accent, in a soft white color, with a small delicate circular design, that adds a warm tone to the bright whites. This space also includes new pendant lighting and dark faux wood tile flooring that gives the space a timeless finish. For more modern finishes we installed a row of directional spotlights, under cabinet LED lighting and an electrical outlet in the top drawer next to the refrigerator for phones and other electronics.
Wicker Park Kitchen
To the client’s specifications we fully renovated and updated their previously outdated kitchen. It was outfitted with stock builder grade cabinets, laminate countertops, and updated appliances. We delivered a new and refreshing look to the unit by starting from the ground up, redesigning the space to employ contemporary materials along with hints of classic elements to really tie the place together and give it some personality. To add some contrast to the espresso finished kitchen cabinets, a sea foam green subway tile was used for the surrounding backsplash. The countertops are polished Luna Pearl granite, creating an overall appearance of being light, with darker highlights. The stainless steel appliances, hardware and detail provide a finish that has both a contemporary look and modern functionality.
When these clients came to us, they were seeking to maintain the traditional style of the home, but add some modern finishes to their kitchen renovation. To modernize the space and add a bit of contrast we installed black quartz countertops, new light-colored hardwood oak flooring, a stainless steel brick style backsplash, painted the walls white and the ceiling a sky blue. This combination of colors offers a lovely mix of dark and light contrasts creating a fresh look while the backsplash is used sparingly not to overwhelm the cleanliness of the white walls. To keep this space looking clean and elegant, we decided to make the appliances “hidden” by placing the refrigerator in the newly opened pantry and disguising the dishwasher with cabinet door fronts. The base cabinets, that surround the kitchen, further add to the clean and modern look, giving each accessory and tool a place for it to be tidied away. Other additions include a lazy susan within the corner cabinet, a pull out space rack, hidden LED under cabinet lighting, a fitted cutting board and a pull out two can garbage drawer.
Morton Grove Kitchen
As a growing family, these homeowners were looking for a fresh, modern look that would bring their family together. A complete gut rehab was necessary to make their dream into a reality. There was formerly a wall separating the kitchen from the dining area, isolating the cook from the rest of the group, making this space unideal for entertaining. By knocking down this wall, we completely opened up the space and created an inviting and relaxing environment for all. To keep with the open and airy feel of the new space, the homeowners opted for light-colored cabinets and walls, but wanted to contrast it by having the peninsula with darker cabinets. The new kitchen was outfitted with custom granite countertops that are able withstand the wear and tear of a growing family. This gut rehab created a space that will suit the needs of this family for years to come.
